About

Built from the frustrations of practice.

LexBrief Counsel is practice-management software for Australian barristers who want the work between brief and bill to feel calmer.

Why I built Counsel.

LexBrief Counsel began with a simple problem. The software available to sole practitioners did not reflect the way a barrister's practice actually runs. Matters, appearances, written work, time entries, invoices, and GST reporting often ended up split across tools that were made for someone else. That meant extra re-keying, more checking, and too many small admin jobs at the end of a long day. Counsel was built to make that flow feel simpler and more deliberate.

What it is.

It is being built by an Australian barrister working in sole practice who wanted software that understood the details that matter here in Australia. That includes time-billing in six-minute units, ex-GST invoicing, clear expense tracking, and reporting that stays useful without becoming an accounting project of its own. The aim is not to do everything. The aim is to make the core practice-management workflow easier to trust.

How it works.

Counsel is focused on the shape of work at the Australian Bar. Matters stay at the centre. Time entries sit close to the work they belong to. Invoices are easier to review before they leave chambers. GST reporting stays visible instead of becoming a month-end scramble. The product is designed to reduce friction in the parts of practice management that repeat every week, not to add a layer of admin dressed up as modern software.

Where it runs, and what's next.

The product is being built in Perth and hosted in Australia. That local footing matters. So does keeping the service grounded in the practical needs of barristers rather than generic small-business software assumptions. LexBrief Counsel is in alpha now. Paid general availability will follow later. If you would like to see where it is heading, the best next step is to request alpha access and stay in touch.
